Asahi Beverages and Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) invited guests to Longreach in the heart of Queensland, to celebrate the launch of Great Northern Brewing Co.’s latest Queensland exclusive beer, Long Run.
After flying out to Longreach, guests witnesses the unveiling of the new Longreach mural, sponsored by Great Northern Brewing Co., which is located in the town centre. This was attended by star of the show and Longreach town mascot, Olly the bull.
Afterwards, guests were treated to a three course dinner at the Dr. Bruce Yeates Memorial Cottage, capped off with Long Run-filled bonbons and chocolate and rum-filled marshmallows roasted over a fire.
Ben Farlow, Head of Strategy and Innovation, CUB, spoke to the beer’s outback origins.
“The country, the bush, the outback of regional Queensland, this certainly is an iconic town that we are in today, and this evening has a special place in the hearts of all Australians for so many reasons.
“I spent many of my formative years in central Queensland, and it gets in your blood, this place. When you grow up in the bush, and you live in the bush, you’ll realise that when you touch the red earth, when you see the horizon 360 degrees around, when you notice the stars light up the night sky like you’ve never seen before, and when you, for those who are from Melbourne or Sydney, breathe in the natural dry air that you get from this wonderful outback Australia, you soon realise too that it gets in your blood and is something that you’ll never forget. You’ll be forever connected to it.
“And because of this, when we seek to create the next big thing of premium beer from Queensland’s beloved Great Northern, it had to be inspired by the great outdoors. The clean, crisp and refreshing taste needed to be there, and it needed to carry the substance and authenticity of character, which is a hallmark of the area Great Northern comes from.”
