The Justice and Police Museum is featuring an exhibition on Sydney pubs from February 23 to November 2.
Sydney’s Pubs: Liquor, Larrikins and the Law takes visitors on a journey through the city’s pubs past and present and includes historic photography and films, pub paraphernalia and an interactive map of the city and its pubs from 1910 to today.
“More than mere commercial purveyors of alcohol, pubs define the pulse, personality and tempo of a city,” the Historic
Houses Trust, the authority managing the exhibition, said in a statement.
“Over the years pubs have generated fierce partisan loyalties from various classes, professions and trades, temperance debates, Royal Commissions, a sly grog industry, underworld patronage, legal scrutiny, policing and regulation.”
The Police and Justice Museum is located on the corner of Phillip and Albert streets, Circular Quay. Admission is $8. Open Saturday and Sunday.
