A new exhibition that traces the pubs and brewing history of an iconic Queensland town will open at the Discover Eumundi Heritage and Visitor Centre tomorrow.
‘Eumundi’s Pubs – Free Beer Tomorrow’ will showcase the colourful characters that have worked and visited the pubs and display old photographs and anecdotes, beer bottles and merchandise, as well as advertisements and signage.
Discover Eumundi manager, Wendy Birrell, said the exhibition drills down into the history of both Joe’s Waterhole and The Imperial Hotel.
“We’ve looked at everything since the initial building of the town’s two hotels, including the fires that destroyed both buildings and their subsequent rebuilding,” she said. “The rebuilding of the pubs from local timber was remarkably quick — such is the love for the public house.”
The exhibition will be held in the old police cells at the back of Discover Eumundi. It will form part of the Eumundi Food Fest on July 13 and will continue in Discover Eumundi until September.
Eumundi is an hour north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast and 20km west of Noosa.
