A recent spate of armed robberies in Sydney involving pubs and clubs has again highlighted the need for greater security in the hospitality industry.
One of the latest targets was Sydney’s popular North Bondi RSL Club, where two men, one armed with a rifle, robbed the club at around 11:20pm on Saturday (Apr 18).
It is alleged the men forced staff members to lie on the floor before demanding cash from the safe. The men were given an amount of money before fleeing the scene, with no one injured during the robbery.
This follows an attack on the Salisbury Hotel, Stanmore, in Sydney’s inner west last Thursday (Apr 16) where three men wearing balaclavas and armed with shotguns forced hotel staff into a cool room before escaping with cash.
No one was injured and no shots were fired during the attack. Two 21-year-olds were arrested and charged by police after a four-hour search of the area around the hotel, but a third man remains missing.
Forestville RSL Club was also robbed twice in two months earlier this year, with the most recent attack leading to a security guard being shot in the leg on Mar 19.
The robbers made their attack around 2:00am and allegedly wore balaclavas and were armed with handguns.
The club’s manager and security guard were threatened during the attack and are believed to be the only two people in the club at the time of the robbery.
