Extra stock is being ordered and staff leave cancelled as bars and pubs around Australia get ready to rumble on Wednesday (Dec 2) night.
The highly anticipated Danny Green versus Roy Jones Jr IBO Cruiserweight Championship fight has attracted unprecedented interest locally as Australia’s three-time world boxing champion takes on the seven-time world champion.
The bout is being billed as the biggest fight ever staged on Australian soil and publicans with Fox Sports can expect a full-house on fight night.
Fox Sports director of sales, Shayne Carvey, said a blockbuster night of entertainment is in store when two great champions of the modern era go head-to-head.
“This is one of the greatest boxing events this country has ever seen,” he said. “With the arrival of Roy in Australia on Sunday, public interest is huge and our call centre has started to take calls from punters wanting to know which hotels and clubs are showing the fight. Fox Sports venues around the country that will be showing the event are sure to be packed.”
CEO and managing director of National Leisure & Gaming (NLG), Andrew Jolliffe, said the Danny Green versus Roy Jones Jr match-up is as contextually relevant as an NRL or Super 14 finals fixture.
“The interest generated by a world class event like this has the capacity to transcend gender and hold a magnetism for sports fans of all persuasion,” he said.
"NLG are showing the fight at multiple venues across the portfolio, and the interest already received from new patron bases vindicates our decision to include events such as this into our overall patron experience strategy."
