Fire-damaged pub to get makeover

After suffering damage due to a fire in the accommodation rooms, Sydney's legendary Lansdowne Hotel will be getting a makeover.

The pub on the fringe of Newtown suffered smoke and water damage after a fire broke out on the third floor apartments on January 11.

Having originally reported plans to re-open in "a couple of days", after weighing up their options the operators have decided to freshen up the venue with a minor renovation.

"We are in the process of going over designs and plans, and that sort of thing now," owner Ben Walsh told TheShout.

"We're weighing up whether to retain the grungy, uni-themed look, or adopt a more eclectic Newtown styling, or something entirely different, perhaps light and airy."

Walsh says that plans will be finalised in coming weeks, and the venue is expected to be closed for around six weeks during the renovation process.
