Sydney’s Rocks Brewing Co has signed a lease to take over the Lord Raglan Hotel in Redfern with the intention of relaunching it as a haven of good beer.
Rocks Brewing CEO Mark Fethers confirmed the deal, commenting that Redfern is ideally suited for the quality craft beer venue.
“It’s a changing suburb with a lot of both younger and older people, from all over, moving into the area. And these are the people that demand good beer, so we’ll be supplying them with a venue where they can get it.”
Located an easy walk from Redfern Station, the Lord Raglan will be fitted out and packed full of the best beer from around the country and the world.
The pub will also have its own bottle shop, selling quality craft beer in both bottles and growlers for punters to take home.
The pub itself has been shut for a number of years, languishing in an area that used to house at least triple the number of pubs that currently exist.
When open, the Lord Raglan will follow a similar path to the successful formula perfected in the brewing company’s original venue, Harts Pub in The Rocks – with a few small changes of course.
The Lord Raglan will be a stripped back, relaxed space with meals served on the bar, comfy spaces to hang out and a packed calendar of beer events to entertain local lovers of good beer.
“The Lord Raglan will be given back to the community,” said Fethers. “That means no pokies. It’s a simple philosophy: good beer and good food.”
This latest venture comes at an exciting time for Rocks Brewing Co, as the company is entering a significant phase of expansion – both in property and personnel.
Rocks recently welcomed aboard Stefanie Collins, former Editor of Beer & Brewer Magazine, as the team’s new communications manager.
Collins joins recent sales team recruits Tim Fishwick and Rebecca Lock, both ex-Little Creatures, as Rocks Brewing Co scales up towards the opening of its new brewery, bar and restaurant complex in Alexandria.
