After a brief intermission, Sydney live music institution the Annandale Hotel will be re-launching next month with a new look in tune with the times.

After purchasing the hotel from receivers last June, Sydney pub group Oscars Hotels has refurbished the 1930s local to broaden its appeal, but retained its commitment to live music.

The Annandale now boasts a large, leafy courtyard, coffee bar and open-air back bar with a signature cocktail menu.

The dining menu is led by executive chef John Rankin and integrates signature dishes with classic pub fare, including a breakfast sitting with favourites such as pancakes and maple syrup, beef hash eggs, toasties (pictured) and house-made hash browns. (continues below)

The new look incorporates a range of options, including table service and communal dining, with meals available from early ‘til late complementing “local and international singer songwriters, unplugged and bluegrass artists”.

The pub's association with live bands began in the 80s, when owner Peter Morris re-positioned the traditional pub into a music mecca. This was continued throughout the 15-year ownership by Matthew and Daniel Rule, until the pub's forced receivership last year.

An effort by loyal patronage to salvage the former venue was the ‘Buy A Brick and Save the Annandale’ campaign, which has been honoured through the integration of the campaign plaques purchased being incorporated into the new interior “as a constant reminder of a commitment to keeping the iconic hotel alive”.
