After purchasing the multi-level City Hotel in Sydney CBD in late 2013, the expanding Waugh Group has unveiled a new concept bar in its place.
Mr Tipply’s is positioned as a “house of consumption and conviviality” targeted at city-based professionals and businesses.
Centred around the Kent St entrance, the new venue has had a complete overhaul, including bar and tiling and banquette seating and an eclectic colour palette combined with “rich fabrics and African wallpaper”.
Set to be revealed at Thursday night’s Grand Opening, level one will be known as The Attic at Mr Tipply’s, featuring its own original fit-out and specialising in gin cocktails.
With a capacity for 180 people, The Attic will target the function market and corporate events and offers a separate entry as well as through the main bar.
Waugh Group CEO Ben Lawler told TheShout the venue has already hosted corporate functions for several nearby companies.
“We invited a number of our neighbours to the unofficial opening in June and several have already undertaken their own events, which we are happy about,” said Lawler.
The dining offering is an Asian-inspired menu promoting share plates and diversity, designed by executive chef Elaine Lee, and ‘styled’ by food artisan Gemma Lush.
Beneath street level, with an entrance on King St, is Mr Tipply’s Den of Chance, where gamers can have a flutter amid stylish sporting memorabilia including black and white photographs.
