Almost 1200 beers from around the world are being put to the test in this year’s Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), with judging underway.
Organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) in conjunction with the University of Ballarat, the event has attracted almost 650 individual entries from Australian breweries and almost 500 from overseas this year.
Entries have come from as far as Nigeria, Columbia, Sri Lanka, Czech Republic, Poland, Cambodia, Bolivia and Puerto Rico, to name a few, as well as from many of our own domestic producers both large and small.
This year’s judging panel includes the UK’s ‘Beer Doctor’, Dr George Philliskirk, who is a director of the Beer Academy, which is an educational trust dedicated to helping people understand and appreciate beer.
Established in 1987 to reward excellence in the field of brewing and to assist the promotion of the brewing industry, the AIBA championship trophies will be announced at a gala awards presentation dinner at Crown Palladium in Melbourne on Thursday, March 19.
