Tasmanian will receive a new independent wholesale distributor tomorrow when Tasmanian Independent Liquor (TIL) officially launches.
Entirely owned and operated by Tasmanians, TIL has the full support and backing of the Victorian-based Southern Independent Liquor.
TIL managing director, David Stephenson, said the group would bring a new level of competition to the Tasmanian market.
“And in doing so, will make a significant contribution to the ongoing battle against the corporately structured majors,” he said.
TIL has a new warehouse and distribution facility at Rokeby covering 2000 square-meters, complete with advanced technology-based integrated office facilities for ordering, tracking and delivery systems.
TIL general manager, Glen Skelton, said the group aims to give their customers a strong, competitive advantage through high level professional support, including ranging advice, merchandising and POS assistance, as well as financial management programs.
Key TIL management also includes Michael Strutt and Rod Calder, who, together with Skelton, have more than 70 collective years of experience in the state’s liquor wholesaling industry.
The independent share of the Tasmanian retail liquor industry is about $200m annually, with the state’s retail liquor industry growing at about 5.5 per cent a year, according to TIL data.
