Victoria Police have today announced a fourth nightclub will be trialling a voluntary 2:00am lockout in a bid to target alcohol-related violence in Melbourne’s CBD.
The Alluva nightclub in Bourke Street opted to implement the three-month trial following a violent incident outside the club last month involving about 30 youths. It joins three popular CBD venues—CQ, Basemint and The Balcony—that have refused entry to patrons after 2:00am under the lockout plan conceived by Victorian Police in conjunction with the Director of Liquor Licensing and Melbourne licensees.
“This is a fantastic example of Victoria Police and licensed venues working together,” said Inspector Bob Hodgkin. “The voluntary lockouts aim to reduce the number of public order offences that occur in the Melbourne CBD and we are pleased to have the support of Alluva nightclub.”
Hodgkin said police are providing all participating clubs with additional resources to support crowd controllers over the trial period.
The lockout program will commence at Alluva this Friday.
