The ACT will introduce compulsory Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training for liquor licensees and bar staff to reinforce the harm minimisation principles embodied in the ACT Liquor Act.
Attorney General Simon Corbell said the Government was concerned about recent alcohol-related incidents in Canberra and the impact of this behaviour on the community.
Corbell said the Government is reviewing the ACT Liquor Act to determine whether the current law was satisfying community expectations about the responsible sale and consumption of alcohol.
“The review of the Liquor Act will examine a range of issues including the merits of extending on-the-spot fines to liquor licensees for serving alcohol to intoxicated people; lockouts or curfews to prevent patrons entering licensed premises after a certain time; prescribed alcohol free areas at family events, and the development of a code of conduct for the liquor and licensed hospitality industry,” he said.
The review will also examine the merits of increasing the level of penalties currently applying to offences under the ACT Liquor Act.
