The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan and Samuel Adams are introducing a super-premium, champagne-like beer named Infinium, which will be available locally in early Janaury.

The joint venture of Weihenstephan and Samuel Adams aims to combine the American notion of ‘extreme beers’ with the traditional standards of German brewing.

The sparkling champagne like beer is said to be complex, unique in taste and the first champagne like beer which is produced strictly according to the German purity law of 1516 which states that only four ingredients are allowed when brewing beer: malt, hops, water and yeast.

Infinium is packaged in 750mL cork-finished bottles and contains 10.3 percent alcohol by volume, about twice the amount of an average beer.

“The brewery Weihenstephan is a Mecca for beer brewers and beer lovers throughout the world,” said brewer and founder of Samuel Adams, Jim Koch.

“Every brewer imposes reverence for its long tradition when visiting this brewery.”

The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan is a former monastic brewery of the Benedictine Monks from almost 1000 years ago and was later the Royal National Brewery.

The first batch is due to land in Australia in early January and will retail at approximately $35-$40 ber bottle.

It will be distributed in Australia by Phoenix Beers.
