Australian 200-metre butterfly swimmer Nick D’Arcy was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm after allegedly punching Commonwealth Games champion Simon Cowley in the face at the Loft Bar in Sydney’s King Street Wharf on Saturday night. Cowley suffered a number of facial fractures and was taken to St Vincent’s hospital for treatment. D’Arcy, who had recently earned a place on the Australian Olympic swimming team, was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on April 21. He also faces the prospect of losing his chance to compete in Beijing if found guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute by the Australian Olympic Committee.
Two men convicted for the 2004 killing of Sydney publican Shane Mills have applied for bail, The Daily Telegraph reported. Etuate Taisini and Amaniasi Tuifua pleaded guilty to manslaughter last year after hitting Mills in the head with a bar stool during a brawl at the Bells Hotel in the Sydney suburb of Wooloomoolloo. The publican’s family have appealed to authorities not to free the men, who they claim have shown no remorse for the killing.
Three men, two armed with firearms, entered a hotel on Parramatta Road at Petersham at about 10:00pm on Wednesday night and demanded cash before fleeing in an Audi station wagon. The first offender is described as 173 cm tall and of medium build. The second offender is described as 178 cm tall and of large build. The third is described as 188 cm tall and of medium build. All three had their faces covered at the time of the robbery.
Three men, one armed with a firearm and all three with their faces covered, entered a hotel on Glebe Point Road, Glebe, just before midnight on Wednesday and demanded cash from a male attendant. The offenders then fled in a black Subaru Liberty sedan driven by a fourth offender. All three men are described as being of medium build and about 178 cm in height. Sydney Police are investigating the possibility that the incident is linked to the aforementioned robbery on Parramatta Road.

A man who appeared to be armed with a knife entered the Mapleton Tavern Bottle Shop last Friday evening and demanded cash from a female attendant under threat. The offender, described as 190 cm tall with a slim build and brown hair, fled on foot.
