A Western Australian Government committee reviewing the State's Liquor Control Act will deliver its findings in mid-2013.
Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron announced in December last year that John Atkins – who currently holds offices including Western Australian chairman of ANZ Bank and chair of Lotterywest – would head the review of the Liquor Control Act.
According to the review's Terms of Reference (ToF), WA's Liquor Control Act came into operation on 1 February 1989 and effectively remained unchanged for ten years, with significant changes coming into effect in 1998 and 2007.
"In the five years since the 2007 amendments came into operation, there has been much community interest in the operation and effectiveness of various provisions of the Liquor Control Act," the ToF says.
Nicole Roocke, a director of the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, and Ian Stanley, a prominent regional community leader, have been appointed to the review committee, which is expected to report by June 30, 2013.
The committee will invite submissions to the review early this year.
