To raise the profile of the hospitality industry and combat low chef apprenticeship rates, industry super fund, Hostplus has launched its second annual ‘Cook For Your Career’ competition.

The campaign is a national initiative inviting entrants of all ages and backgrounds to compete for an apprenticeship position at one of Australia’s top culinary venues.

"From my own experience I know just how hard it can be to get a foot in the door, so it’s exciting to see that organisations such as Hostplus are helping young people looking to start their career,”  said Andrew Briese, hospitality entrepreneur and former head chef of the Brighton Hotel in Melbourne.

The program is supported by the Australian Hotels Association, Restaurant & Catering Association and TAFE, with emissary chefs from leading restaurants and venues around the country.

"With some of the country’s best chefs on board, this year is going to be an even bigger and better opportunity for our members, while helping nurture the next generation of passionate chefs,” said David Elia, CEO of Hostplus.

The competition will be run in three stages from January 16 to March 16, with the winner also receiving return flights to Melbourne*, accommodation, money-can’t-buy experiences at Melbourne restaurants, ongoing media opportunities and the chance to network with the country’s greatest culinary masters.

Entries close February 10, 2012. For further information, visit www.cookforyourcareer.com.au
