Diageo Australia has announced that David Smith, from Ireland, will replace Tim Salt as managing director.
A spokesperson for Diageo Australia said: "I am pleased to confirm that David Smith has been appointed managing director, Diageo Australia, responsible for all aspects of Diageo's Australia and New Zealand business including manufacturing, marketing and sales.
"David joins the Australian business from Diageo Ireland where he is currently Country Director.
"David first joined Guinness (later Diageo) on its graduate trainee scheme in 1990 and has held a number of senior marketing and commercial roles in the business. For the last four years David had led Diageo’s commercial business in Ireland as Country Director.
"During David’s time at the helm, Diageo has strengthened its position as Ireland’s leading drinks company, increasing share through a combination of innovation, increased distribution and improved return on marketing investment.
"David will relocate from Ireland to Australia with his wife and two boys and will start in the role on 1 September 2015. He will report to Sam Fischer, President Diageo Greater China and Asia."
Smith replaces Tim Salt, who resigned last from the company last month.
