Atomic has added a new beer to its core range, Atomic Hazy is a beer inspired by the big aromas and hop flavours of New England IPAs, but at 4.5 per cent ABV is a more sessionable beer.
To help with the beer’s up-front hop punch it has been brewed with Cryo Pop from Yakima Chief Hops. Atomic said this is an experimental ingredient made by maximizing the concentrations of the most impactful and complementary hop compounds.
“We were trying to make a really fun beer oozing with hop character. But we also wanted to bring that together with a sessionable ABV, so you can enjoy a few over the day with mates,” said Atomic head brewer Nick Ivey.
“We were inspired by punchy hop flavours found in New England IPAs. We wanted something a little more sessionable, so we tried to capture that flavour profile and balance it with a slightly lower ABV.
“We packed Atomic Hazy with Centennial and Citra hops, as well as Cryo Pop. When we brewed this beer, we used a technique where we dry hop before fermentation has begun, so the hops were in the tank throughout the entirety of fermentation. After fermentation was complete, we gave the beer another charge of dry hops to really maximise the hop flavour and aroma.”
Initially brewed as a limited-edition beer out of Atomic’s Redfern brewpub, Ivey said the beer proved so popular that the team realised they were on to something special and ultimately made the call to add Hazy to the core range.
“We’re stoked to see Hazy so perfectly reflecting our new home as well,” Ivery said. “The can is vibrant, colourful and full of great beer – just like the brewpub. We’ve poured a lot of ourselves into the place since opening last year and bringing this local favourite out to the rest of the country feels awesome.”
Atomic Hazy is available nationally on tap and in can (four-pack & 16 x 330ml cube).
