The Australian Hotels Association NSW (AHA NSW) has launched the competition for live music acts.

In an effort to promote live music in pubs and support the grassroots music industry, AHA NSW has launched the inaugural Rockin’ The Puburbs competition, looking for the next big thing in musical acts.

Many live acts start out their careers in pubs, and the AHA NSW has launched the competition to do their part in supporting  and promoting local acts, as acknowledged by CEO John Whelan.

“The NSW hotel industry has always been a big supporter of live music – with about 75,000 live music acts in pubs each year.

“This is a great new initiative backed by AHA NSW, APRA AMCOS and the Live Music Office. It will help local talent gain recognition in the music industry – maybe even become a household name,” Whelan stated.

The winning act will receive a $15,000 prize, which includes live gigs at pubs across New South Wales in 2017/18, a dedicated tour publicist and mentoring sessions with industry amabassadors. The winning act will also perform at the AHA NSW Awards for Excellence at The Star on 21 November.

“We are currently searching for a NSW-based act who perform at least one song of original music – we want the best of the best from across the state whether that’s a band, a solo performer or a duo,” stated Whelan.

Nominations are open now and will close 25 August. The entries will be judged by an industry panel, and the winner will be announced on 8 November.
