The Löwenbräu Keller, a staple in the Sydney pub scene for four decades, will be rebranded as Munich Brauhaus.

Turning 40 this year, the decision was made by the Urban Purveyor Group to upgrade and refresh the Löwenbräu Keller, rebranding it into Munich Brauhaus, the same model used for the group’s South Wharf venue in Melbourne.

The renovations, which are almost complete, include an extension to the bar, extra seating and the installation of TVs. The aesthetic will be even more Bavarian than the original Löwenbräu décor, with a permanent Oktoberfest feel. The new Crafty Bavarian beer range will be on tap, and a large range of imported beers.

Urban Purveyor Group CEO, Thomas Pash, suggests that the rebranding of the Löwenbräu will make it more modern, while still adhering to the spirit of the venue.

“The much-loved Löwenbräu Keller is legendary, but after 40 years it’s time to raise the bar on all things Bavarian,” Mr Pash said.

“Munich Brauhaus is the more modern, big Bavarian bier hall that we want to take forward as one of our key brands. We see a good opportunity to extend the massive bier hall and garden concept to other states. Plus we believe it complements our 10 smaller Bavarian Bier Cafes, which are also undergoing a new look and feel and are growing in number and popularity across Australia.”
