The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) has released three instructional videos to help licensed premises be inspection ready.

The videos, which are presented by VCGLR inspectors, take liquor licensees through the process they can expect when inspectors call on their venues. They cover administrative checks for all licence types as well as the inspection process for packaged liquor outlets and for late night, sexually explicit and some major event licences.

A spokesperson for the VCGLR said: “VCGLR compliance inspectors cover the state of Victoria 24-hours a day, seven days a week and can visit licensed premises any time they are open for business or by prior arrangement.

“If information is requested during an inspection and can’t be produced, this can be recorded as a breach against the licence and may result in a warning letter or penalty.

“Inspections of licensed premises are important to ensure liquor is promoted and sold in a way that encourages responsible drinking.”

The regulator also warned that inspections will go ahead regardless of whether the licensee or manager is present at the venue when inspector call. This means that licencees should ensure their staff are educated on:

  • what a liquor inspection is
  • when a liquor inspection can take place
  • what information will be requested during a liquor inspection
  • where the required information is kept on the premises.

The VCGLR’s Be inspection ready videos are available on the regulator’s YouTube channel.
