Premium bourbon whisky Maker’s Mark has this week (July 5 – 9) launched a new cocktail competition asking Australian bartenders to ‘leave their mark’.

The competition asks some of Australia’s finest bartenders to create their own signature Maker’s Mark drink, to be presented in a unique handmade pewter tumbler.

Part of a global initiative, the concept is based on a tradition which dates back to the 1800s when pewter smiths left their mark on their finest work.

The winner will then fly to Kentucky to represent Australia in a global competition, to compete for the title of ‘Maker’s Mark International Bartender of 2010’.

Local Maker’s Mark brand ambassador, Jared Plummer, said that he was looking forward to seeing some of the cocktails created for the competition.

“This is a chance for bartenders around Australia to get really creative and produce a unique, handmade cocktail that allows patrons to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into their work and Maker’s Mark,” he said.

Bars across Australia will feature the handmade pewter tumbler cocktails from August 2 – 12 September.

They include Low302 and Goldfish in Sydney, as well as 1806 in Melbourne and 399 in Perth.
