Beenleigh is Australia’s oldest operating distillery, having been founded in 1884 on the banks of the Albert River in Queensland and is proudly marking 140 years of producing premium Australian rum.

As Australia’s distilling industry continues to flourish and grow, both domestically and internationally, Beenleigh stands as an enduring icon in Australia’s distilling heritage. The distillery described its 140 year milestone is as “a tribute not only to Beenleigh’s rich heritage but also to the spirit of innovation that drives its commitment to quality”.

In 2012, the Beenleigh Rum brand was revitalised by Vok Beverages, an Australian family-owned company that has played a pivotal role in preserving and growing some of the country’s most beloved beverage brands.

Chris Illman, Director of Hospitality, Sales, and Marketing, said: “The journey of Beenleigh Rum is a quintessentially Australian story of resilience, craftsmanship, and community spirit.

“Thanks to Vok Beverages’ dedication, we’re proud to continue our tradition of creating premium rum that remains true to our roots and is entirely crafted right here in Australia.”

To commemorate this milestone, Beenleigh is releasing an exclusive blend, ‘The Legend’, a limited-edition rum crafted from the finest Queensland molasses, which the distillery says “captures the essence of 140 years of Australian rum-making”.

With just 1,884 bottles being produced globally, ‘The Legend’ is described as “a tribute to the distillery’s founding year and a celebration of its enduring legacy in the Australian spirits industry”.

Will Sullivan, Brand Manager at Beenleigh, added: “‘The Legend’ is more than just a bottle of rum; it’s a symbol of Australian heritage and the craftsmanship that goes into every step of the distilling process. It’s a testament to the passion that has driven us for generations and will continue to inspire us in the future.”

Beenleigh says it is committed to traditional techniques, which it combines with a focus on innovation helping to ensure that every bottle it produces is a tribute to Australian craftsmanship and local pride.
