Australia’s largest Prosecco producer has unveiled a limited-edition aluminium bottle in a move that aims to blend sustainability with convenience.
The Brown Brothers release is designed to keep Prosecco fresher for longer, chill faster than glass and offer portability for parties and picnics.
The bottles are resealable and 40 per cent lighter than glass, which cuts the cost of transport and reduces environmental impacts.
The 750ml design also features eight-colour print capability to deliver shelf presence during peak sales periods such as summer and the lead-up to Christmas.
It also eliminates the need for secondary packaging such as labels or sleeves which helps to simplify the recycling process.
Brown Brothers Prosecco in an aluminium bottle is available now across Australia and New Zealand.
Aluminium is seen as a sustainable packaging option because it is infinitely recyclable and is becoming more widely adopted by the industry.
Earlier this year, brewer Stone & Wood launched an alliance with supply chain partners to develop a breakthrough packaging initiative to improve the amount of recycled aluminium used in its beverage cans.
The initiative, called Re-In-Can-Ation, brought together Visy, Novelis and Rio Tinto to develop the more sustainable beverage can that is estimated to deliver a 59 per cent reduction in carbon emissions compared to Stone & Wood’s existing cans.
Industry collaboration is also something Lion is focusing on, according to its Sustainability Performance Update in June.
The brewer said the Force For Good strategy emphasises the increased need for bold industry collaborations, underpinned by trusted and transparent relationships to drive wider success.
“Our motivation is to be a force for good by role modelling climate leadership in our industry with relentless focus on energy efficiency, biogas production, rooftop solar installations and showcasing water stewardship with high volume water recycling technologies at our largest breweries,” it said.
