Calabria Family Wines has reinforced its commitment to the Barossa by announcing it will open a new cellar door following the 2019 vintage.
“We will be conducting a refurbishment of the current cellar door and we expect to move in after the makeover is finished following vintage in early 2019,” Calabria Family Wines Sales and Marketing Manager, Andrew Calabria told TheShout.
“The building is currently leased to Artisans of the Barossa Valley who also have the Harvest Kitchen which attracts 40,000 people a year and is also one of the most popular venues for locals as well.
“These days, coming to the Barossa is more than just being about the wine. We will definitely have a restaurant and it will source its products from throughout the Barossa. We also have an amazing lawn area that is a perfect spot for watching the sun set.
“For us, the Barossa is about creating the full experience for domestic and international travellers as well as our export customers from Asia and Europe. The Barossa is now the most recognized wine region in Australia and we look forward to highlighting what else is there is to offer.
“The recent Barossa advertising campaign has changed the tone – it is no longer about dads drinking big old reds. The food scene is now incredibly vibrant and as a result the wine styles are changing and making the dynamics more interesting.
“There are a lot of exciting things happening in the region and as a collective everyone is working together. There are enthusiastic young winemakers coming through and seeing the next generation come through is a healthy sign of what is happened within the region.”
So does this mean that Artisans of the Barossa will have to find a new venue?
The breaking up of this vicious duopoly is long overdue.
