DrinkWise Australia has today (November 10) announced the appointment of former Brisbane barrister and commissioner for liquor licensing in Queensland, Chris Watters, as incoming CEO.
Watters will take over from outgoing CEO, Dr Mike McAvoy from December 1.
DrinkWise Australia chairwoman Trish Worth said that Watters’ 30 years’ experience in law, enforcement and regulation would make him a great asset to the organisation.
“At DrinkWise, we have an ambitious goal to change Australia’s drinking culture and we know that Chris’ qualifications, experience and energy will bring strength and commitment to our team and help us to achieve our aims,” she said.
“DrinkWise is greatly indebted to our outgoing CEO, Dr Mike MacAvoy for his excellent contribution to the organisation and the leading role he has played in developing our first social marketing campaign. We wish him well for his retirement.”
One of Watters’ immediate tasks will be to oversee the current ‘Kids Absorb Your Drinking’ media campaign, which focuses on generational change towards responsible consumption of alcohol.
