Endeavour Group has today announced its acquisition of McLaren Vale based winery, Shingleback Wines.
The deal includes the Shingleback Wine brand portfolio and an ongoing grape-supply agreement, alongside a long-term lease of the winery’s cellar door in the McLaren Vale.
Paul Walton, Director of Endeavour’s Pinnacle Drinks arm, expressed his delight at the addition.
“We are thrilled to add Shingleback Wine to our Paragon Wine Estates as part of our strategy to grow our premium wine portfolio.”
“Shingleback Wine has been producing beautifully rich and full-flavoured wines for 25 years, and we look forward to continuing to offer it to wine lovers in Australia and around the world as part of Paragon Wine Estates,” Walton continued.
A relatively recent addition to the McLaren Vale, Shingleback was established by brothers Kym and John Davey in 1997, and has swiftly asserted itself as an award-winning winery.
In 2006, Shingleback triumphed in the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, one of Australia’s foremost red wine awards. More recently, Shingleback took home four trophies at this year’s Sydney Royal Wine Show.
The Davey brothers also commented on the acquisition, stating: “As a long-term, proud supplier to Endeavour Group, we know that the Shingleback family of wines has a bright future as part of Paragon Wine Estates.”
“We are very proud of our team’s stellar achievements over the last 25 years and are confident that Endeavour Group has the passion, people and capacity to continue to build on that success.”
Shingleback is the second McLaren Vale winery in the Paragon Wine Estates collection, following Endeavour’s 2019 acquisition of Chapel Hill (with which it established Paragon).
In all, Paragon Wine Estates now consists of seven wineries across six major producing regions, with Oakridge Wines (Yarra Valley), Krondorf (Barossa Valley), Riddoch (Coonawarra), Josef Chromy Wines (Tasmania) and Isabel Estate (Marlborough, NZ) joining Chapel Hill and Shingleback in the portfolio.
