The latest data from Kaddy has shown a record sales period for Gin on the platform as Australia continues to grapple with hospitality restrictions.
Kaddy, the online wholesale platform used by over 1,500 trade customers and 400 beverage suppliers, closed July with an all-time record sales week for Gins as consumer demand for the craft spirits category remains high. During a period where over half of Australia’s population were in lockdown, the figures reflect increased off-premise sales and relaxed taxation on repackaged liquor in the form of bottled cocktails from hospitality venues.
High supply kept pace with the demand, with Gin accounting for 10% of the 1,000+ new products added to Kaddy in July alone. The growth of the Gin category means it is now second only to craft beer in terms of the number of total products available on the platform. Whilst Kaddy has widely garnered a reputation as the go-to wholesale for craft beer, two-thirds of customers now use the platform to order spirits, mainly from independent craft producers.
Business Gin-telligence
To help retailers and venues navigate the high volume of products and stay up to date on the most popular SKUs, in early August Kaddy introduced a daily updated list of the Top 10 Most Popular Gins from the platform’s 400+ suppliers.
Fluctuating with daily sales, the Most Popular Gins list features a variety of independent and craft suppliers, like NSW’s Archie Rose Distilling Co., Tasmania’s Hellfire Bluff Distillery, Canberra’s Big River Distilling Co. and Queensland’s Wolf Lane Distillery all making an appearance in the Top 10.
“Kaddy has introduced Wolf Lane products to venues that may have previously not been able to reach us,” says Sam Kennis, director of Wolf Lane Distillery. “It’s opened doors to venues that do not have accounts with large wholesalers. Kaddy gives more options to the customer and makes life easier.”
Kaddy officially launched in Queensland this month. Trade customers in NSW, VIC, ACT and Queensland can register for a free account at kaddy.com.au.
