Independent Brewers Association (IBA) has announced the departure of CEO Kylie Lethbridge who will leave the organisation to take on the role of General Manager at the Australian Distillers Association (ADA).

Lethbridge has been with the organisation since 2020, with her first day on the job just one day prior to COVID lockdowns commencing across the country.

During her tenure, Lethbridge led members through the COVID recovery time, delivered state strategies and heralded not one, but two excise remission increases.

Speaking to Beer & Brewer, Lethbridge said this was not an easy decision, but she is welcoming a change.

“Change is good. Five-and-a-half years with the IBA has certainly been some of the best of my career, even though they were quite challenging. I came in at a time when the organisation was transitioning and I worked hard to ensure that we survived and could continue to help our members through that really difficult time,” she said.

“I am excited to sink my teeth into something new and continue to support small producers.”

Evin Craney, board Chair of the Independent Brewers Association (IBA) thanked Lethbridge for her work during this time.

“On behalf of the Board and the entire industry I would like to thank Kylie for an incredible five years with the IBA. Her commitment and dedication, leadership and positive influence will ensure a legacy is felt by our members for years to come,” he said.

In a statement from the IBA, the organisation noted that Lethbridge’s legacy with the business goes beyond her practical achievements.

“She has answered the phone, responded to an email or driven out to meet members on issues big or small.  Her approach has always been members first. It shows in the relationships that she has built across the country – where she is relied on not just as an expert, or the person who will get things done, but also as a confidant and a friend.”

Tom Champion, Deputy Chair of the Independent Brewers Association added: “Kylie has truly gone above and beyond for the indie brewing community.”

In her own words, Lethbridge said she hopes that she will be remembered for the way the organisation has evolved during her time as CEO.

“It was wonderful to be a part of the evolution of the organisation, bringing in style and sophistication, breadth and depth of strategy and advocacy and ensuring our growing industry is taken seriously.”

Lethbridge will officially join the ADA on 27 October 2025 bringing a proven track record of elevating industry voices and building strong, future-focused organisations.

On joining the ADA Lethbridge expressed her excitement for the next challenge

“I am thrilled to be so warmly welcomed and look forward to dedicating my time and energy to supporting artisan producers, small businesses and the people who work so hard to pursue their passion. With significant opportunity, an inspired cohort of members and the leadership of the Board, I’m confident that together, we can achieve great things.”

The board of the IBA emphasised their ongoing commitment to ensuring Australians have the opportunity to choose an ‘indie’ beer.

In terms of who will be taking on the role of CEO, Craney said the IBA will make a further announcement in the coming weeks.

“The Board are taking some time to reflect on Kylie’s lasting impact, and will make an announcement in the coming weeks about the management of the IBA following Kylie’s departure in late October.”
