A Western Australian whisky has been recognised internationally as one of the best for 2010.

Limeburners Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky, produced by the Great Southern Distilling Company, was awarded a bronze medal at the 2010 London International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) last week (Jul 27).

The single malt whisky, which is manufactured using local ingredients in Albany, WA, is handmade in small batches using traditional methods.

Great Southern Distilling Company Director, Cameron Syme, said the result was an outstanding achievement for the company.

“This latest award will bring greater international recognition for Limeburners Single Malt Whisky, the Australian whisky industry generally, and for tourism for Albany,” Syme said.

The international award is the second for the distillery, which also won an IWSC bronze medal in 2008 for Cask M2, the first barrel of the single malt whisky to be bottled.
