Johnnie Walker brought its Diamond Jubilee Scotch Whisky back to Sydney for an exclusive event at the Sydney Opera House concert hall last Thursday night.
Created in recognition of the 60-year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there are just 60 bottles of Diamond Jubilee available for purchase worldwide, now valued at $200,000 each.
The Diamond Jubilee expression first visited Australia for an unveiling in April 2012.
Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course dinner paired with whiskies presented by John Walker and Sons global ambassador and whisky expert, Jonathan Driver, who introduced guests to the brand’s luxury portfolio and finally, the Diamond Jubilee.
Joining guests such as Ronan Keating and Vincent D’Onofrio were media, VIPs and two competition winners, who experienced the $4000 per dram Diamond Jubilee via winning an in-store competition at Dan Murphy’s. Consumers who spent $60 or more were eligible to win flights to Sydney, two nights in five star accommodation and attend The John Walker and Sons Diamond Jubilee Tasting Event; in what was an unforgettable luxury experience.
John Walker and Sons’ Jonathan Driver described the unique characters of the Diamond Jubilee expression as “a nose of light, clear fruit and a cleansing sweetness which deepened before drying, refined fruity aromas balanced creamy-sweet and spicy wood.
“The palate was firm and clean, with a complex balance of sweet green-fruit sharpness and hints of smoke, warm spice and smooth vanilla.
“The incredible drinking experience concluded with a delicate balance of dried mixed fruit and freshness.”
Diageo Australia marketing manager, luxury brands, Andrew Morley said: “Ninety per cent of our reserve net sales globally come from Scotch whisky and vodka, and in particular, from super deluxe variants of Johnnie Walker. It is fitting to have the world’s first ever tasting of Diamond Jubilee by John Walker & Sons on Australian soil given the strength of our reserve brands.”
