LMS Brewing, brewers of Last Man Standing Lager, has taken over the former Newstead Brewing Co Brewery, next to Suncorp Stadium, on Castlemaine Street in Brisbane.

On Tuesday last week Newstead announced it was closing the doors on its venue after 13 years, and then LMS Brewing stepped in to reopen the doors on Friday.

The reopened venue has a temporary set-up at present, with the LMS team aiming to open a a more comprehensive Last Man Standing Brewery experience on Friday, 28 March, just in time for the Dolphins vs. Broncos NRL clash.

Managing Director Damian Prosser said the idea of opening a brewery is something he and the team have been thinking about for some time.

“Opening our own brewery and venue is not only the logical next step in our growth, but it’s the realisation of our plans, dreams and hard work over the past five years,” he said.

“We can’t wait to start pouring some cold ones and to show Brisbane and the world what our beer and our brand is all about.”

Prosser added: “The opportunity has come a little sooner than expected, but this is a fantastic venue in an iconic location and we’re excited to create an exciting space. We’ll keep the taps pouring for sports fans and locals while we get set up properly.”

The original ‘Last Man Standing’ and co-founder of LMS Brewing, Steven Bradbury OAM, said he was excited to bring some good news to the people of Brisbane after five years “in the trenches” fighting as an independent Australian-owned brewer.

“Many Aussies don’t realise that almost every big-name beer you can think of is actually Japanese-owned by big companies, making it bloody hard for the smaller, Australian-owned and independent brewers,” Bradbury said.

“Independent Aussie brewers continue to be under threat from ridiculous taxes, overseas corporations, pandemics and up here, the weather – but we’re not going to be swayed from our mission.

“We want to bring some good news to the industry, buck the trend and inspire fellow indie brewers to push on. Courage, determination, self-belief and just a little luck – that’s what being the Last Man Standing is all about – and I should know.”

“I love Australia, I love sport and boy do I love a few beers with my mates and I can’t think of a better sporting venue in the country to sit alongside than Suncorp Stadium. It would be a crime for this fantastic brewery to be closed while there’s so much happening at the stadium and in Brisbane. We had to step in and make sure that didn’t happen,” he said.

The team said that when the Last Man Standing Brewery transition is complete fans can expect “a high-energy sports bar atmosphere, big screens, epic pub fare, plenty of staff, great service and an unbeatable game-day vibe”.
