The Melbourne Royal Wine Show Awards Lunch was held on Friday 1 November, with Lindsay McCall awarded the 2024 Wine Communicators of Australia (WCA) Victorian Legend of the Vine Award.
Since its inception in 2014, the Legend of the Vine Award has celebrated icons of the wine industry, with McCall recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Mornington Peninsula and to elevating the wider Victorian wine industry.
As the founder of Paringa Estate, one of Victoria’s premier wineries, McCall was praised for his dedication to winemaking and his hands-on approach in everything from innovative vineyard practices to his uncompromising focus on quality.
Additionally, as a long-standing member of the Mornington Peninsula Vignerons Association, spanning 25 years with a stint as President and Chair of the Pinot Noir Celebration Australia, McCall’s new Legend of the Vine status recognises his continued advocacy for the reputation of Australian wine both nationally and internationally.
Angus Barnes, National WCA Executive Chairman, congratulated McCall on the award, stating that he is a true advocate and leader of the Mornington Peninsula wine industry, having devoted decades to its success.
“Although he often remains behind the scenes, Lindsay exemplifies the qualities of an exceptional communicator – consistent, reliable, and a mentor to many. Through his passion, vision, and unwavering commitment, Lindsay McCall has created a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of winemakers in Victoria.
“His impact is not only felt in the vineyards but also in the spirit of community that he has helped cultivate, ensuring that the state’s wine industry thrives for years to come.”
The Legend of the Vine Award extends across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with McCall joining Prue Henschke (South Australia) and Sally Evans (New South Wales) as 2024 recipients.
