Little Creatures, has announced a major $10m redevelopment of its Fremantle home as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations. The revamp marks a significant milestone for the brand and aims to strengthen its connection to the local community and visitors to WA’s iconic port city.
The redevelopment will see the existing site transformed into a two-level venue located at 42 Mews Road, adjacent to the original Great Hall. Set along the Fishing Boat Harbour, the new space will offer sweeping waterfront views, expanded dining and tasting experiences, and a stronger focus on family-friendly and immersive hospitality.
Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2025, with the reopening planned for the 2025 summer season.
Lion Field Sales Director, Danny Connolly, said: “Little Creatures has been a part of the fabric of Fremantle for the past 25 years, and this significant investment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the brand.
“The project honours Little Creatures’ legacy while offering fresh new features aimed at delighting guests and drawing new energy into the Fremantle dining and entertainment precinct.”
The design will blend Fremantle’s coastal and industrial heritage, incorporating sustainable, locally sourced timber and architectural elements that honour the site’s history. Key features include a redesigned kitchen and bar, an upgraded menu with open-flame grills and wood-fired offerings, and a new tasting room dubbed ‘The Brewhouse,’ which will offer beer education experiences, tours, and merchandise.
A standout addition to the venue is ‘The Den,’ a family-friendly outdoor zone that allows kids to play while parents enjoy a drink and catch live sports. The aim is to broaden Little Creatures’ appeal to a wider demographic while staying true to its laid-back, beer-centric roots.
The renovation is being led by Dundee Rock, a 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned construction firm, in a move that aligns with Little Creatures’ commitment to diversity and local community impact.
Mayor of Fremantle, Hannah Fitzhardinge, said: “A new venue directly on the Fremantle harbour waterfront is very welcome, and we’re thrilled Little Creatures can remain at their original site. This new space for Little Creatures will provide locals and tourists with an inviting place to enjoy some of the best views, beers and hospitality in WA.”
Little Creatures’ current Great Hall venue will remain open until October 2025 to allow continued service during the construction period. An official reopening date for the new venue will be announced later this year.
