9/11 Bottleshops throughout Tasmania have partnered with legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting on a new fundraising initiative, which will support young Australians and their families fighting cancer.

Starting on Saturday 26 August, until Monday 27 November, all profits from Ponting Rianna Rosé and Ponting Mowbray Boy wines sold at 9/11 Bottleshops across the state will be donated to the Ponting Foundation. Ponting, who was born in Launceston, commented on the cause.

“Our Foundation is dedicated to supporting young Australians in their battle against cancer. We work with a number of organisations around the country, providing much-needed assistance and resources to those who need it most.”

Using Ponting’s profile to influence widespread community engagement, the Ponting Foundation provides a range of essential services that comfort young Australians with cancer while providing emotional support and financial assistance to their families.

Ponting Wines, which recently celebrated the launch of its wines in India, the UK and Holland, will contribute to the fundraiser with the donation of the two popular wines.

David Krenich, Co-founder of Ponting Wines, a collaboration between Ponting and award-winning Australian winemaker Ben Riggs, commented on the winery’s involvement in the initiative.

“Ricky is a very passionate Tasmanian, and 9/11 Bottleshops is a very strong partner for us down in Tasmania, so having the opportunity to raise some funds for the Ponting Foundation just seemed like a perfect match.

“Everybody has leaned into it, our distributor down there has not taken a margin on it, neither have any of the parties involved, which will really maximise the funding that we can raise out of the initiative. It’s also great exposure for everybody, being able to support and raise funds for kids with cancer.”

Sharni Wise, 9/11 Bottleshops Retail Manager, said that the collaboration represents more than just wine for the liquor retailer.

“Partnering with Ricky and the Ponting Foundation to help support young Australians battling cancer was an easy decision for us. This is a great cause, and to be able to support with sales of some great wines, is something we can really get behind.”

Members of the 9/11 Bottleshop loyalty program will automatically be entered into a draw to win a Kookaburra cricket bat signed by Ponting when they make an eligible Ponting Wines purchase, all while enjoying a fine wine for a noble cause.

When the campaign concludes in November, an announcement will be made to highlight the total amount raised for the Ponting Foundation and showcase the generosity of the local Tasmanian community.

Celebrating the launch of the initiative, Country Club Tasmania hosted a Ponting Wines Dinner on Saturday 26 August where Ponting shared insights about his wines, the Ashes series, the upcoming ICC World Cup, and the Hurricanes chances in BBL13.
