What’s your history with LMG?

I ran bottle shops about 25 years ago in South Australia and that’s where I first crossed paths with Simon Rowe and Jodie Tully. But if you’d said to me then I’d be working alongside them with LMG all these years later, I couldn’t have dreamed it. While it’s only been a short time thus far with LMG, I’m loving being a part of the team.

What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned over your career?

Take every opportunity to listen and learn. You meet so many interesting people in this business and they have a lot of experience and knowledge to share. Even just a casual chat can deliver so much valuable insight.

What are you most looking forward to in the coming months?

We are so excited for the expansion of the LMG loyalty platform, which is going to set us apart even more, and most importantly deliver more shoppers to stores. The members are really looking forward to it. Electronic shelf labels (ESL) further roll out will deliver benefits which are already enjoyed by many LMG members – the time savings they offer are fantastic.

How do you handle challenges in your role?

Challenges are good – they show you that you’re pushing the boundaries and pushing forward. When you get through challenges with your team or with members, it makes the relationship even stronger. There’s nothing like overcoming a hurdle together to create lasting relationships and strong loyalty.

What’s the best advice you’d give someone starting out in the industry or something you wish you’d been told starting out?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Have a crack, find different ways of doing things, strive to be better every day. When you’re working together and all pulling in the same direction, it’s much easier. And don’t forget to enjoy the wins along the way!

What keeps you inspired?

I just love this industry. You work hard but it’s a lot of fun and the people are fantastic. Seeing your customers and members winning is incredibly rewarding.

What does your ideal Friday night look like and what are you drinking?

On Friday nights I have a beer with my mates at the golf club then head home for a swim with my kids and a nice wine with my wife. It’s usually too hot up here in Darwin to drink anything but white, but occasionally we’ll throw a couple of ice cubes in a glass of red.
