Nominations are now open for the next Board of Directors of Retail Drinks Australia. The incoming Board members will be officially appointed at the Retail Drinks Annual General Meeting on 29 October and will serve a two-year term.

Retail Drinks has said that to be eligible to nominate, individuals must be at a CEO, Chair, Owner or equivalent decision maker level in the business of the nominating member, and that member must also be financial by the time of appointment.

CEO Julie Ryan said that becoming a Director presents individuals with the opportunity to make a positive contribution to Australia’s retail drinks industry and that the association’s Board is intended to be a true and accurate cross-section of the industry.

“Retail Drinks is committed to ensuring that it properly represents the views of the Australian retail liquor industry and ensuring that the Board consists of a diverse range of representatives and stakeholders is a crucial aspect in achieving this outcome,” Ryan said.

“The structure of the Board means that no one category of membership can dominate the Board, with the category of chain stores, single and multi-state banners, liquor stores, corporates and online each having two representative directors, and all Directors have an equal vote.

“This means the independent retail sector actually has a larger proportion of votes than any other membership category.

“The ability to become a Board Director of Retail Drinks is an exceptional opportunity to help shape the future of the Australian retail liquor industry and contribute to Retail Drinks’ mission of enhancing the freedom of retailers to trade responsibly.

“Given the importance of this role in determining Retail Drinks’ major activities and strategic policy direction, it is critical to have Board Members who are passionate about the industry and its future.”

Individuals wishing to nominate for the Retail Drinks Board can do so by emailing julie.ryan@retaildrinks.org.au stating that they wish to nominate and the relevant category for which they are eligible. Board Director nominations should be submitted no later than Tuesday 6 August 2019.
