The Winemakers' Federation of Australia (WFA) today welcomed the appointment of George Wahby as the new chairman of the Wine Australia Corporation.
Wahby, who stepped down CEO of McWilliam's Wines Group at the end of last year, also served for six years as a Director and Vice-President of the WFA.
"This is an outstanding appointment," said WFA President, Mr Tony D'Aloisio.
"George has extensive experience in the industry, a broad range of skills, a passion for Australian wine, and a good understanding of the issues the industry faces and the opportunities we need to chase.
"He has earned tremendous respect throughout the industry. I look forward to working closely with him."
D'Aloisio paid tribute to retiring chairman, Jim Dominguez.
"Jim steered Wine Australia through a period of great change to the benefit of the Corporation and of the industry it serves," he said. "He can look back at his achievements with great satisfaction."
Wahby's appointment was announced today by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry, Senator the Hon Joe Ludwig. He will take up the position on 1 July.
