The Responsible Gambling Awareness Week (RGAW), which is held annually to raise awareness about the importance of gambling responsibly, will run from 17-23 October this year.

The week is managed by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation and is a partnership between the Foundation, local government, the gaming industry and community groups.

Australasian Gaming Council Chief Executive Nadine Grinblat said: “Responsible Gambling Awareness Week is a significant way industry, government and communities can work positively together to increase awareness of behaviours and measures that help keep gambling a balanced social and recreational activity. The messages this initiative sends are important – not just for the duration of the week – but all year round.”

Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation chief executive Serge Sardo said the week provides an opportunity for everyone who provides gambling products, both in venues and online, to get involved.

“We encourage everyone who provides gambling products to help increase awareness among staff and customers about our tips to reduce the potential for harm from gambling,” Sardo said.

“These handy tips will be clearly displayed online and in gaming venues throughout the week and we hope they will generate discussion among friends and families on ways to gamble responsibly.”

He added: “We hope all gambling providers will embrace the week by promoting responsible gambling to members, staff and visitors and ensuring people who might be experiencing problems know there is help available.”

More information about the week is available from the RGAW website.
