Time Out Sydney's inaugural festival celebrating World Cocktail Week is attracting the best bartenders in the land to the hottest bar venues for the quirkiest drinks events ever witnessed
After celebrating a black mass with tequila at Tio’s, a beer v cocktail grudge-fest at Lo-Fi and a Classic vs Molecular showcase at Zeta Bar, Time Out Sydney’s World Cocktail Week programme is set to hit an even higher gear in Week Two.
On Monday May 13 at Palmer & Co, The Big Easy finds an all-star cast pumping out classic New Orlean's cocktails with live jazz riding shotgun. Working the bar will be a who's who of bar talent: Jason Crawley, Marco Faraone, Dylan Howarth, Ben Davidson, Phil Bayly, Jamie Terrell and Mikey Enright. On Tuesday May 14 Keystone's hot new rooftop bar The Rook hosts Ain't Nothin' But a Gin Thing featuring five sensational gin cocktails shaken and stirred to a soundtrack of Muddy Waters, Snoop Dogg and plenty in between – sensational value at just $35. Game of Thrones fans won’t want to miss A Song of Ice and Fire, in which the award-winning drinks team at Hazy Rose create four whiskey elixirs using two elements then ignite, freeze, heat and melt them to see which wins. At Sokyo Social on May 16 chef Chase Kojima styles up an assortment of sinful canapés to match with bartender Michael Chiem’s award-winning cocktails.
And closing out World Cocktail Week festivities on May 20 is the Time Out Shakedown at The Standard. Now in its fourth year, this popular annual competition draws a crowd of 300+ and pits the best bartenders in the biz against each other on stage in a battle royale to decide Australia's best cocktail (and creator).
