Non-alc category leader Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits Company has extended its offering with Lyre’s Highland Malt, an ‘impossibly crafted’ non-alcoholic whisky.

For years, non-alcoholic producers have focused on clear spirits, with the malt whisky style considered a ‘Holy Grail’ of the non-alcoholic spirits sector; greatly rewarding, but impossible to achieve.

Now, Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits Company has produced its Non-Alcoholic Highland Malt, Australia’s first whisky-style drink in the category, and one of the most innovative launches in the NOLO sector for years. While other non-alc offerings have provided emulations of generic dark spirits, Lyre’s Highland Malt is specifically inspired by the flavour profile of a malt whisky, just without the alcohol.

The Highland Malt has been created ‘true-to-taste’ by Lyre’s team of experts, capturing all the flavours that drinkers know and love from Highland Scotch whisky. The non-alcoholic spirit serves up flavours of soft honey, stone fruits, almond and gentle sea spray, with a little charred oak complexity. The mouthfeel is full and velvety, and the finish is long and luscious, perfectly encapsulating the whisky experience.

David Murphy, Lyre’s Flavour Architect and Sommelier, had a crucial role in developing this new spirit, and said “While Lyre’s spirits are true-to-taste, they have their own distinction as a premium non-alcoholic beverage.”

“Understanding the popularity of whisky, we wanted to deliver the same delicious taste but with a difference. Whether served neat or with mixers, whisky is a firm favourite for many around the world. Understanding this, we’ve worked tirelessly to study the aromas, tastes and textures that whisky fans most enjoy, to deliver Highland Malt.”

For both retail and the off-premise, Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Highland Malt represents an exciting new product in a rapidly expanding category. Premium whisky has also seen an upward trajectory in the past decade, and Lyre’s Highland Malt allows retailers and operators access to two of Australia’s fastest growing categories at once, meeting consumer demand for new products in both sectors.

Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits Company have always maintained that its products are for all drinkers, not just non-drinkers, providing high quality and inclusive experiences for whisky fans both in venue, and at home. In this regard, Lyre’s Highland Malt can complement existing alcoholic spirits menus, and offer alcoholic drinkers a ‘spacer’ during an evening out.

As Murphy says, “People who enjoy the taste of a great whisky can experience our non-alcoholic version on occasions where it would otherwise just feature alcoholic equivalents – Highland Malt extends the whisky occasion to more people, more often.”

Although delicious when sipped neat, Lyre’s Highland Malt is just as versatile as its alcoholic counterpart and can be mixed into a variety of classic serves, including the Old Fashioned, the Whisky Sour and the Highball.

The bottling also opens up the end-of-evening dram or night cap occasion to more drinkers, providing a rare non-alcoholic digestif option.
