Pinot Noir is enjoying excellent growth in Australia right now, across the on- and off-premise Australian consumers are embracing the delicate, food-friendly wine.

The 2018 Australian Liquor Stores Association and IRI State of the Industry Report, highlighted just how well the varietal is performing in Australia’s off-premise market.

The report stated that Pinot Noir brought over $24m in growth to the market, the third highest of any varietal in 2017, along with 18 per cent year-on-year growth and the second highest average cost per unit, behind only Champagne.

These numbers highlight why the varietal should be seen as incredibly important to retailers, wine bars and restaurateurs, with high margins and strong growth it is definitely time to jump on-board the Pinot train.

There are other reasons as well. The representative body for wine in New Zealand is giving away the trade immersion of a lifetime as part of its campaign to celebrate New Zealand Pinot Noir this October.

RALLYING THE INDUSTRY TO CELEBRATE NEW ZEALAND PINOT NOIR

With a number of Pinot Palooza events taking place around Australia in October, there will be a buzz around the variety. The competition from New Zealand Winegrowers offers an extra opportunity for retailers, wine bars and restaurants to gain more than just increased sales through hosting wine dinners, masterclasses or offering New Zealand Pinot Noir tasting flights.

“October is the perfect time of year to set this challenge as the east coast becomes a Pinot lover’s heaven with dozens of New Zealand winemakers descending on Australia for the Pinot Palooza festivals. The competition provides an avenue for retailers, wine bars and restaurants to make the most of that buzz and be in to win an incredible trip at the same time,” said Natalie Grace, New Zealand Winegrowers Marketing Manager for Australia.
