The Great Australian Beer Spectapular (GABS) is inviting craft breweries to submit their entries for the highly anticipated 2023 GABS Can Design Awards.
Presented by Orora, in partnership with Opal Specialty Packaging and Bintani, the awards celebrate the pinnacle of craft beer can design. Returning for its fourth year, craft breweries are encouraged to showcase their unique design work at the annual awards.
All craft breweries are entitled to submit one beer can design which was released after 2 October 2022. As a way of introducing the works to new audiences of beer and art enthusiasts, all entries will be displayed in a digital art gallery and subject to a people’s choice vote. The top 10 designs will later be adjudicated by an esteemed panel of industry experts.
Mike Bray, CEO of GABS, explains the importance of the awards: “The ethos of GABS has always been to share our love of craft with as many people as possible and the GABS Can Design Awards is another way for us to do this. Creating a new craft beer is a collaborative effort and a large part that cannot be overlooked is the incredible impact of the packaging – the first point of contact between the consumer and the product.”
“We initiated the Can Design Awards as a way to shine a spotlight on the many talented designers and marketers and introduce a wider audience, in the way of art enthusiasts, who may otherwise not have been exposed to this highly creative industry.”
The winning designer will walk away with a $1,000 cash prize, a prestigious Orora golden can trophy and one tonne of malt from leading ingredients supplier Bintani. In addition, the top 10 finalists will receive a share of prizes from Opal Specialty Packaging with a total value of $5,000.
“We would encourage all craft breweries to get involved as it gives them an opportunity to celebrate those team members often working ‘behind the scenes’, exposes their brand to new markets and they could possibly pick up some fantastic prizes along the way!”
