Sydney bar and mecca of all things agave, Tio’s is set to be the home of Mezcal March. The celebration of all things mezcal is being run in conjunction with Australia’s best agave importers and aims to put the spotlight firmly on what is one of the world’s hottest spirits. Mezcal March will feature not only a bespoke cocktail list, but also one of the finest assemblages of mezcal ever seen.
As part of the month-long initiative, the inaugural Mezcal Mini Fest (MMF) will be held at Tio’s on Sunday, 27 March. Celebrating the end of Mezcal March, the bar will host a roundtable discussion and in-depth tasting of the spirit, alongside plenty of the cocktails and signature serves featured throughout Mezcal march.
Showcasing the most delicious mezcals in the world, the inaugural MMF presents this oft-misunderstood spirit in its prime condition and will feature agave distillates drawn from a 30-year process.
Mezcal March is playing into a growing global thirst for mezcal and is aiming to educate the Australian bar scene around this unique spirit offering. With over 100 brands currently exporting and the category growing at 22 per cent, per year, mezcal has hit a new international peak, proving a major driver of growth in marginalised rural communities, sparking a diversification in the species of agave – with over 30 currently represented.
The whole of the festival offers the rare opportunity to taste some truly unique products in cocktails and signature serves, as well as the chance to discuss all things agave with some of the most knowledgeable mezcal brains in the country.
Marketed as “one half mezcal exposé, one half party” the team say to expect a “a tonne of mezcal”.
