Industry professionals are invited to a ‘monumental’ trade tasting of wines from Western Australia, scheduled for Tuesday, 17 June, in Sydney.
As well as showcasing well-known WA varietals like Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc, the tasting will also feature the likes of Grenache, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, Riesling and Tempranillo, plus 20 different alternative white and red grape varietals.
The extensive wine list includes 39 different varieties from 50 iconic and emerging wineries across six wine regions: Margaret River, Great Southern, Swan Valley, Geographe, Pemberton and Blackwood Valley. Over 20 winemakers will be present at the tasting, along with several winery owners.
In addition to the tasting, the event will also feature a range of masterclasses curated by wine writer, judge and presenter Erin Larkin.
The masterclasses will inform attendees about emerging wine styles that are blazing a trail in Australia, as well as cultural wine icons and classical benchmarks.
Speaking about the event, Larry Jorgensen, CEO of Wines of Western Australia, said:
“Our wineries have been trailblazers since 1829, when Australia’s second-oldest wine region, the Swan Valley, was planted. The quality and winemaking creativity coming from Western Australia’s wine regions has never been greater.
“Our industry’s artisan nature and magnificent seclusion make this a well-kept secret, and we’re thrilled to bring more wine lovers into the fold, starting with this trade event in Sydney.
“Producers are crafting styles that can be fresh and expressive from two months to 20+ years. Classic wine varietals are being reimagined, while there are more than 40 different grape varieties planted. Everything our producers are doing is exhilarating.”
The event is taking place at Watersedge at Campbell’s Stores in Sydney on Tuesday, 17 June. Entry is free for those working in the trade, but registration is essential. Register now through the Exhilarating Wines of Western Australia website.
