The Macallan Scotch whisky has launched its Quest Collection, four new Macallan expressions which will be available through travel retail.
The Macallan Quest, Lumina, Terra and Enigma will be launching first at Sydney Airport and Edrington, the company behind The Macallan, has said that the Quest Collection tells the story of the brand’s quest to find the world’s finest oak to craft the barrels which are used to mature the whisky.
“The Macallan Quest, is our quest for flavour,” said Edrington’s brand ambassador for Asia-Pacific, Keith Nair.
“When we talk about the flavour of any Macallan, we must talk about oak casks. We believe that up to 80 per cent of the flavour characteristics in the whisky comes from the oak casks. And 100 per cent of the whisky’s colour comes from the oak casks as well.
“So the Macallan Quest Collection is essentially our pursuit of the world’s finest oak casks, it’s our wood journey in liquid form.”
Ranging in price from the Quest at $109 for one-litre through to the Enigma at $325 for 70cl, the collection features whisky made using a variety of barrels and oaks.
Quest features a selection four different cask types including Sherry-filled American oak and European oak. Lumina features three cask types, while Terra is aged in first-fill oak sherry seasoned casks. Finally Enigma is aged exclusively in European oak Sherry-seasoned casks from one cooperage in Jerez de la Frontera.
Edrington added: “The Macallan Quest Collection is a stunning quartet of whiskies encouraging us to take inspiring journeys; to make memorable discoveries; to adventure to places where we can create the best experiences and memories, bringing out the very best in ourselves. Importantly it challenges us to never settle in our quest for the best.”
