West Australian gin company The West Winds has added to its impressive line-up with their strongest gin yet.
Weighing in at a hefty 63.0% ABV, The Captains Cut gin follows on from The Broadside and was created with the team’s “heavy handed” captain, Paul White, in mind.
The gin itself is designed to fit in with the broad range of flavours already on offer in the portfolio and reportedly shoes “an adventurous side” with pink grapefruit flesh and resinous hoppy notes on the nose. The palate is peppery thanks to the use of native sage and thyme, with additional hints of violet and pine needle.
The West Winds suggests serving the high ABV spirit in a Dirty Martini, a crew favourite cocktail called The Last Word, or in a gin and tonic garnished with either a slice of pink grapefruit and crushed fennel seeds, or lemon peel and cracked pepper.
Initially produced as a small batch run of 300 units, The Captains Cut comes in 500mL bottles.
