The Wine Company has announced that it will become the new Australian distributor for Spanish family-owned winery Gonzalez Byass, as of 1 March 2017.
Owner of the world’s biggest selling Fino Sherry, Tio Pepe, Gonzalez Byass has won thousands of awards since it was founded in 1835; however most recently they were announced as “Best Spanish Winery” and “Fifth Best Winery in the World” at the prestigious 2016 WAWWJ awards (World Association of Writers and Journalists of Wine & Spirits).
Chief winemaker Antonio Flores, Master Blender Gonzalez Byass Jerez, was recently named 'Best Fortified Winemaker' at the International Wine Challenge Awards in London, plus 'Best Spanish Winemaker' at IWC Merchant Awards 2016.
Peter Yeoman, General Manager of TWC said: “This is a significant portfolio extension for our business and a major new launch by Gonzalez Byass into the Australian market place.
“Our Industry does not get historic and highly awarded worldly brands like these ones owned by Gonzalez Byass entering our market very often – TWC is honoured to be partnering this development and delighted to have been chosen to govern these brands in Australia.”
In a statement TWC highlighted the range which will soon be available in Australia.
“Aside from Tio Pepe, Do. Jerez superior range (which includes a PX, Solera, Oloroso & Amontillado), ranges that will now be available through The Wine Company’s (TWC) national distribution will be Beronia (Do. ca Rioja), Vilarnau (Do. Cava), Pazo de Lusco Albarino (Do. Rias Baixas), & Vinas del Vero (Do. Somontano), covering all of the major wine producing regions of Spain.”
