Not one, not two, but three of the world’s most renowned master whisky distillers will present at Top Shelf, the drinks festival that launches in Melbourne in February.
Buffalo Trace bourbon’s Harlen Wheatley (pictured) will fly in from the US, while Burn Stewart’s Ian MacMillan and Bruichladdich’s Jim McEwan will both travel from Scotland specifically to attend the show. All three will speak on the main stage.
“For the whisky lovers of Australia, this is great news,” said event director Paul Wootton. “It’s rare to get three whisky distillers of this renown all in the southern hemisphere in the same place at the same time. But you’ll get the chance to meet all three of them at Top Shelf.” [continued below]
Aside from the distillers’ presentations, the festival promises plenty more to keep whisky enthusiasts entertained. Exhibitors include The Glenlivet, the classic Speyside whisky from Scotland, and Australian newcomer Starward. A special talk by Mark Nicholson will highlight the qualities of Japanese single malt whisky.
Top Shelf, which will showcase premium drinks across all categories –wines, beers, spirits and mixers, takes place in the Royal Exhibition Building, Carlton Gardens, on 9th February and 10th February 2014. Tickets go on sale shortly, with a special advance price for the trade of just $15.
Hope he’s bringing some Stagg Jr. with him.
